Description

This is a study of the era of transition from the Later Middle Ages to the rise of science in the early modern era, c. 1300-c. 1700. Major themes include the Italian and Northern Renaissances; the Continental, English, and Catholic Reformations, religious wars such as the Thirty Years' War, and the rise of science. Special attention will be given to the relationship between social change and shifts in European intellectual life and spirituality. This fulfills the history component of the social science liberal arts requirement. Three hours.
